E-Safety

We were awarded the Leicestershire School’s E-Safety Award for all of the hard work the children, staff parents and carers have been doing linked to being safe online. This has included learning about E-Safety in lessons, assemblies as well as holding a Parent/Carer workshop.

E-Safety
The internet, mobiles phones, social networking and other interactive services have transformed the way in which we live. Children and young people are amongst the early adopters of the new technologies and move effortlessly between the various interactive services and devices to communicate, interact, create and share content with family and friends. They also often use these technologies as part of the school curriculum.
There is no doubt that the new technologies offer tremendous opportunities for children and young people however as with any environment there are also risks.
Risks associated with the internet, mobiles and social networking sites and other interactive services include:
  • Cyberbullying
  • Grooming
  • Potential abuse by online predators
  • Identity theft
  • Exposure to inappropriate content including self-harm
  • Exposure to inappropriate images
  • Radicalisation
  • Racism
  • Hate

A huge thank you to those parents/carers who were able to attend the E-Safety meeting led by international E-Safety consultant, Traci Good. I hope you all found it useful and took away a number of key messages to think about to ensure that your child continues to be kept safe when online. Traci was able to share her extensive knowledge on a range of online apps and especially the main dangers children are facing when accessing them. A variety of different links that you can access at home to ensure that you are fully aware of the dangers and how you can deal with them if they were to arise are below. At Sketchley, we will continue to educate your child at school during our Computing and PSHCE lessons to make sure that they understand how to use online apps, games and the internet in a safe way.
