Over the last few years at Sketchley, we have worked hard to develop the whole school curriculum we have been teaching to your children.
For three years, the Creative Curriculum was a huge success with children and parents/carers alike all praising the learning experiences that took place. We saw an improvement in the engagement of pupils in the lessons they have experienced, exciting trips and visitors, fabulous creative work produced by the children, both at school and at home, but most of all, a tremendous increase of fun and excitement from everyone involved. As with everything, we are keen to maintain the enthusiasm and successes we have achieved so far. Therefore, we redesigned the Creative Curriculum to form the ‘Curiosity Curriculum’ and although the first year of this curriculum was interrupted late in the Spring Term and throughout the Summer Term by the Covid-19 pandemic, we saw high levels of enthusiasm across the school, continued improvement in learning engagement and children inspired to find out more through the questioning approach initiated by the ‘Sketchley Hill Question.’ Throughout 2020-2021, Sketchley pupils continued to learn through the Curiosity Curriculum despite the continued disruptions of Covid – this was supported by Remote Learning via the Seesaw platform. We can’t thank parents and carers enough who have supported us over the last few years and the engagement of parents, grandparents and carers with the last Creative Curriculum Open Afternoon was a joy to see! |
In 2022-23, Sketchley intend to build on and improve the enquiry, research and investigative skills of the children in their learning through the Curiosity Curriculum. All the learning that takes place will be taught around a “question” that the children will need to be able to answer, either by the end of each lesson or at the end of each theme. Sketchley children love to ask questions; they often know what they want to learn and find out about. The Curiosity Curriculum harnesses the contagious enthusiasm across a wide range of skills and knowledge. Exciting and stimulating themes have been planned to engage all pupils and we are very much looking forward to the year ahead.
Please find information about our Curiosity Curriculum on our website where it details a clear intent of what we want to achieve at Sketchley. Don’t forget to keep an eye on Twitter too (the link can also be found on our school website) displaying photos and videos of the fun and exciting lessons your children will be enjoying. We look forward to another successful year and working with you and your child. Many thanks for your continued support and engagement.
